This Blogspot is in response to the Sunday reading task. This Task is assigned by Yesha Mam. I am going to write down a BlogSpot on Life of Pi , Film Screening, on 15th July 2022, organized by the Department of English.
Life of Pi is a 2012 adventure drama Film directed and produced by Ang Lee and written by David Magee. Life of Pi is a novel. This Movie Based on Yann Martel’s 2001 novel of the same name, it stars Suraj Sharma, Irrfan Khan, Rafe Spall, Tabu and Adil Hussain In lead roles.
The main themes in the film “Life of Pi” are religion and faith. The protagonist is in the process of searching for God: Pi does not question the fact that he exists.
*There are some important cast in the Movie
Suraj Sharma- Pi Patel
Irfan Khan - Pi Patel
Gautam Belur- Pi Patel
Rafe Spall - The Writer
Tabu - Gita Patel
Adil Hussain - Santosh Patel
Vibish Shivakumar- Ravi
Life of Pi is based on the novel of the same name by Jan Martell. This is a multi-layered book, which, depending on the reader’s worldview, can be considered both an adventure novel and a philosophical fairy tale.
*Significance of Tiger
In this Movie , ‘Life of Pi’ We Can see that Richard Parker is the Bengal Tiger that symbolizes God or faith through love and fear, and also survival. He symbolizes being an imaginary friend as well. However, it can also be argued that Richard Parker symbolizes that he and Pi are one in the same.
Richard Parker as a Symbol of Spirituality
One of the ways that Richard Parker symbolizes spirituality is through Pi's love and fear. Richard Parker may even be a symbol for God or faith himself because Pi both loves and fears the tiger in the same way that many people both love and fear God.
God shows an all-encompassing love for all humans created in His image, but it takes effort and time for people to love God. Pi loves Richard Parker like he is family by the end of the novel, but this relationship had to develop over time. Pi and Richard Parker had a bond that he could recount even as an adult. It takes effort to create strong bonds with people, or in this case, a tiger.
*Significance of Island
In Life of Pi , The Island is a paradoxical symbol of both salvation and temptation. Its very existence tests Pi's faith. At first the island tempts Pi with an easy life, allowing him to stray from his journey. Pi thinks that he has been saved.
The island is shaped like a man because Pi has taken his mind off of God and is focusing on his base needs, the needs of man, as opposed to God. The island acts as a religious symbol for Pi's spiritual journey. Pi's humanity re-emerges on the Island. It is human to search for spiritual fulfilment, but only after physical needs are met.
* “Animal” version
According to the first version, in the finale, Richard Parker went into the jungle without even looking back, which was the biggest tragedy for the main character. The love was not mutual: Pi loved the tiger, but he did not. Pi considered him a friend, and the tiger perceived him solely as a machine that gives him fish. The story of Pi’s miraculous rescue, in which he ended up on a boat with Richard Parker and other animals, is the version that we see throughout the film.
To Sum up
The movie Life of Pi is not a journey of Pi Patel but it is a journey of a man. The ending part of the movie is very emotional. Because In the last one can see Richard Parker vanishing, disappearing from the life of pi & Lost somewhere in the forest.
Thank You… .
